Seven pilgrims were killed on Sunday when a speeding Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus went out of control and ran over them on the Bangalore-Pune Highway near here, police said.
According to an eye witness, the KSRTC bus was trying to overtake a speeding truck from the left. But the bus driver had not noticed the pilgrims who were having breakfast on the roadside. Before he realised it, he lost control of the bus and ran over the victims, crushing them to death. Superintendent of Police Sandeep Patil said the police would confirm soon whether the mishap occurred due to the driver’s negligence.
