SIRUGUPPA/BELLARY: In a shocking incident reported late Saturday night, an enraged husband allegedly murdered his five-month-old baby girl and his wife and attempted to murder two other daughters over a family dispute at Tekkalakota village of Siruguppa in Bellary.
The infant Vishalamma died immediately, while his wife Tippamma (30) succumbed after she was allegedly assaulted by her husband Yellappa. The condition of the couple’s five-year-old girl Devamma is said to be serious. She is being treated at Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) in Bellary.
Police said Tippamma and baby Vishalamma sustained serious head injuries after they were beaten up by Yellappa with sticks and boulders. The incident occurred at around 2 am on Sunday.
The third daughter Radhika was unharmed.
According to the police, 36-year-old Yellappa was an alcoholic and used to quarrel with his wife often. The couple were married for nine years and had three daughters. It is suspected that Yellappa was unhappy for not having a son.
Siruguppa police arrested Yellappa in Kowtalm in Andhra Pradesh on Sunday evening. A case has been registered.
