DAVANGERE: There is a need to press for reservation of MLA, MLC and MP seats for backward classes and Dalits for their uplift, said Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah here on Sunday.

Presiding over the Halumatha Mahasabha Centenary-2012 and Kurubara Jagruti convention, Siddaramaiah said, “When I was the deputy chief minister and finance minister in 1994-1995, for the first time, reservation facility for other backward classes and minorities was introduced in zilla and taluk panchayats, city corporations, town municipalities and pattan panchayats. This enabled backward classes get political power in local bodies and Panchayat Raj institutions thus helping their development.”  After a gap of 17 years, the mega convention of Kuruba Samaj is being held in Davangere. This convention should create awareness about seeking reservation for exploited classes, Siddaramaiah said.

“One can’t become a leader if he cannot lead all sections of society along with people of his community,” Siddaramaiah said and added, any leader created overnight will lose his charm in a short span of time.
