KAS officer attacked, in ICU

BANGALORE: Deputy Director at the Directorate of Co- Operative Audit SP Mahantesh, 48, a KAS officer, was brutally attacked with lethal weapons by unidentified miscreants near Atria Hotel on Palace Road around 9 pm on Wednesday.

He was going home in his car.

Mahantesh has been admitted to a private hospital. His condition is said to be very critical.

A resident of Vittal Nagar in Chamarajpet, Mahantesh is married to Poornima.

The couple has two daughters, Ragini and Deepika. According to the police, Mahantesh had left his office in M S Building near Vidhana Soudha around 4 pm and had gone to Sahakara Nagar Co-Operative Society for auditing. His car was waylaid near Atria Hotel by nearly five unidentified miscreants, who attacked him and sped away.

“Some passers-by informed the police, who immediately shifted him to a nearby hospital. It is not clear whether the miscreants had come in bikes or a car. We would get a clear picture only after Mahantesh makes a statement,” said the police.

Mahantesh’s nephew Sachin has filed a case in this connection, the police added.

However, the police are yet to ascertain whether there is a personal or professional reason behind the attack. Meanwhile, the victim’s colleague Nagaraj said that Mahantesh used to go for auditing alone.

It is said that Mahantesh sustained severe head injuries and is under ventilator support. The CT scans revealed that he has swelling and blood clotting on the surface of the brain along with external head injury.

High Grounds police have registered a case and are investigating.
