The High Court division bench headed by Acting Chief Justice K Sreedhar Rao has issued notice to Karnataka State Mango Development and Marketing Corporation Limited (KSMDMC) in a PIL that was filed under the banner of Kolar Mango Growers seeking minimum support price for mangoes and other benefits for the mango growers.
While adjourning case, the bench observed, “Our growers do not get involved in marketing. It is only the purchasers who do the business and the growers simply outsource the marketing. So the corporation should look into the problems of both the growers and purchasers and help them in eliminating or minimising middlemen.”
Senior advocate S S Naganand, who is appointed as amicus curiae by the court, submitted that though the KSMDMC came into existence in January 2011 nothing has been done to improve the plight of the mango growers in the state.
