Free and fair elections, says Siddaiah

Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner Siddaiah, who is also the Bangalore Urban District Election Officer, has assured that ‘free and fair elections’ will be held in all the 28 Assembly constituencies which come under BBMP limits, including Anekal.

Siddaiah told reporters on Wednesday that there would be 7,500 polling stations set up in the 28 constituencies. “Based on previous elections, we have identified 4,000 sensitive and hyper-sensitive booths. They are categorised based on reasons like heavy polling in some areas, threat to voters and other vulnerable areas. We have micro-observers to monitor the situation,” he said.

Siddaiah said about 38,000 polling officers from state and Central government offices and PSUs would be deployed for the polls, excluding police personnel.

“Since the code of conduct is in force, we have removed around 6,000 banners, buntings, flexes and hoardings of political parties. We are also keeping a vigil on check posts to stop vehicles carrying liquor or cash,” he said.

Dr Vishal R, additional commissioner (Election), BBMP, said they had constituted Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation Plan, Media Certification and Monitoring Committee, Expenditure Monitoring Control room call centre, Model Code of Conduct Monitoring team at the BBMP level.
