Miscreants pelt mosque with stones, break window

A group of miscreants threw stones and broke a window of the Jamia Masjid in Nejar late Tuesday night, creating tension in the area.

The miscreants came on bikes around 11.30 pm and threw stones while Moulana Aboobakkar Musliyar, Moosa Kunhi, Basheer Sa-adi and others were inside.

They fled before the police arrived.

Earlier on Tuesday, a group of youths belonging to fanatic groups had attacked 27-year-old Iqbal with metal rods at Kela Nejar at around 10.30 pm.

He was returning home after attending a mehandi programme, in which the accused had also taken part.

A severely injured Iqbal was admitted to the government hospital in Ajjarkad.

Based on his complaint, police arrested Kallianpura GP president Sathish Nayak of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Prashanth and Praveen.

Police suspect that both the cases of pelting stones and assault were by the same group.

It is to be noted that Nejar, a small township on the Malpe coast, continues to be sensitive since 2008, when the masjid was first attacked. Since then police protection had been given to the mosque.
