Eight people, including two children, died on the spot when the four-wheeler in which they were travelling rammed into a bridge near Somasamudra, 10 km from here, on Monday.
Of the 20 people travelling in the vehicle, 13 were injured. Lakshmi, mother of three-year-old Shrisha who died in the accident, was put on ventilator as her condition was said to be serious.
Abhishek (9), driver Venkatesh (35), Ambamma (51), Karibasavana Gouda (60), Renukamma (50, Sadashivappa (51) , Maniprasad (35) are the others who died in the accident.
All the injured were taken to Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Science (VIMS), Bellary, for treatment.
Some of the other injured were identified as Lingappa, Nilamma, Ashok, Ramu, Nagaraj, Nilappa, Basavaraj, Marappa and Hanumantha.
According to the police, the vehicle was heading towards Bellary city from Kurugodu when the driver lost control of the vehicle and rammed into the bridge near Somasamudra.
