The one-and-half-year-old-girl who underwent barbaric torture at the hands of her father, succumbed at Karnataka Institute of Medical Sciences Hospital in Hubli on Tuesday night.
Rajeshwari Sunagar of Mugad village in Dharwad was admitted to the hospital on December 20. The baby had cigarette burns on her body and multiple fractures. It is said that her father Ramesh Sunagar, an alcoholic construction worker, threw the baby around like a ball. She suffered brain haemorrhage, according to the doctors who treated her for over a month.
Police arrested Sunagar, who also tortured his wife Lakshmi for giving birth to a female child. District Child Protection Officer B Usha said the Centre is now planning rehabilitate Lakshmi at a women rehabilitation centre and her three-year-old son is being taken care of at Bal Mandir.Family members have not claimed the body.
