14 lakh students register for JEE

More than 14 lakh students have registered for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Mains 2013 to be conducted by the Central Board for Secondary Education(CBSE) in April.

More than 14 lakh students have registered for the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Mains 2013 to be conducted by the Central Board for Secondary Education(CBSE) in April.

Last year, a total of 11.2 lakh students had registered for the examination. This year, more students have registered for the JEE Mains as there is an increase in the number of engineering colleges accepting the score and an overall increase in the number of BE seats in national institutes. The JEE Mains offline will be conducted on April 7 while the JEE Main Online from April 8 till April 25, 2013.

The JEE was previously All India Engineering Entrance Examination till last year, until the CBSE and IITs decided to conduct just a single entrance test for the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), 30 National Institutes of Technology (NITs), Indian Institutes of Information Technology and Management (IIITM), and engineering colleges of several other universities and institutions.

Ramesh Batlish, FITJEE expert and centre head, said, “The number of NITs has increased to 30 this year and there were just 20 institutes last year. Thirteen deemed universities will be accepting the JEE scores for admissions, this year. Students have a plethora of opportunities for pursuing education  from the top institutes.”

“The JEE mains is also the entry point to the premier institutions and has the options of both online and offline which is a comfortable option for students. The CBSE will conduct the JEE mains and it will be objective type,” Ramesh added.
