Fake note bait stumps voters in Tumkur, Koratagere

Handing out money to lure voters may not be uncommon. But, in their eagerness, some supporters of aspirants in Tumkur Rural and Koratagere constituencies have allegedly been ploughing in fake notes along with the genuine ones.

Such a case was first reported at Guluru village in Tumkur Rural where a local leader was given `7 lakh by a candidate to be distributed among voters, according to a party worker who spoke on condition of anonymity.

According to the party worker, a man took the `500 note to a liquor shop, but the cashier found that it to be a fake note.

In Koratagere, traders and cable operators have had to bear the brunt. Many people had paid their cable TV bills with the money distributed to them.

When the cable operator went to deposit the money in Karnataka Bank, the notes were found to be fake.  But traders are facing difficulties as they cannot trace the customers to ask for a replacement.
