Ugrappa: Why Patel statue now?

In the guise of building a grand memorial for Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has conspired to raise about `10,000 crore as donation from corporate houses, senior Congress leader V S Ugrappa alleged on Monday.

In the guise of building a grand memorial for Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has conspired to raise about `10,000 crore as donation from corporate houses, senior Congress leader V S Ugrappa alleged on Monday.

The former Opposition leader in the Legislative Council said he wondered why Modi, who had remained silent for the last 11 years on Patel, has suddenly decided to build a grand memorial.

Referring to Bharatiya Janata Party’s ‘Bharatha Gellisi’ campaign, in which Modi is being glorified, he said: “The major challenge before the nation is to save the country from communal elements like Modi.”

Coming down heavily on the Gujarat Chief Minister’s accusation on Congress’ symbol — Hand — being bloodstained, Ugrappa said: “It reflects the mindset of Modi, during whose rule Godhra carnage took place.” Suspecting that the BJP is spending huge amounts on Modi’s election campaign across the country, the Congress leader has demanded that the saffron party leaders  give an account of the spending on rallies.
