It seems like all is not well between Mayor B S Sathyanarayana and JD(S) floor leader R Prakash, who is demanding that the State government supersede the BBMP Council.  The Mayor, in turn, wants the JD(S) members to resign from their membership.

Prakash said that BBMP has become bankrupt and it is not able to take up any development work. “As electricity bill was not paid, BESCOM has cut down the power supply to borewells,” he alleged. “Why do we need such a BBMP? Let the government supersede it. I shall write to the government regarding this,” he said.

On the councillors’ grants, Prakash said during last the council meeting, the Commissioner had promised to release `4 lakh per councillor for medical grants within 24 hours. “It is almost 15 days, money has not been released,” he charged.

Prakash, who is also Kaveripura ward (Govindarajnagara Constituency) Councillor, said that as BBMP is neither taking up any developmental work nor giving any service to public. “Why should the public pay tax, let them stop paying it to the BBMP,” he said.

Mayor’s Reply

Mayor B S Sathyanarayana said if they (JD-S members) are unhappy with the BBMP Council, let them resign from their membership first and then urge the government to supersede the civic body. On urging public not to pay tax, the Mayor said Prakash holds a responsible position. “As a Floor Leader, he should not make such statements,” he added.
