The government is thinking of building a 500-room hotel to solve the problem of accommodation  for legislators and government officials during the Legislature session here.

Sources said the government, which is ready to offer 27 acres free in Belgaum, is looking for leaders in the hotel business who can build a hotel.

The market value of the land will be more than Rs 90 crore. The condition set by the government is that the hotel owner should give all the 500 rooms free of cost to the government whenever the session is held in Belgaum.

At present, the government is spending more than Rs 4.5 crore for the hotel accommodation. The government books all the hotels located in and around Belgaum whenever the session is held here.

Deputy Commissioner N Jayaram told Express that a few  hotel industrialists were contacted and the issue is to be discussed further.

However, sources said there has been lukewarm response to the offer.
