A mild earthquake measuring 1.4 on the Richter scale was reported at Keralalusandra, Hegganur, Kuppedoddi and Teresapura in Kanakapura taluk, around 3.10 am on Sunday, according to Ramanagaram district administration officials.

However, the Meteorological Department officials in  Bangalore, however, said  no such seismic activity was recorded in the region.

According to the district administration, it was a mild earthquake and no causalities or major damages were reported from the village.

“A wall of a house owned by Ramachanda, a resident of Keralalusandra, partially collapsed due to tremors,  but no one is injured,” said an official.

Deputy Commissioner Dr D S Vishwanath told Express, “According to the information given to us, it was a mild earthquake measuring 1.4 to 1.5 on the Richter scale.”

“Only a wall of a house was damaged,” said an official from Kanakapura Rural police station, who visited the village to verify reports and assess the damage.

In Bangalore, the Meteorological Department officials, however, said  “If it is less than 2 on the Richter scale, hardly few people would have felt it. People of the villages may have felt mild tremors due to blasting activity in stone quarries, but we cannot confirm it.”
