A man was trampled to death by a wild elephant in Koodagi hamlet in HD Kote taluk on Friday night.

Nataraju (33) from the Betta Kuruba community was returning home from Kurnegala village when the elephant attacked him.

Sugunamma, mother of the victim, alleged that people cannot commute between these two villages at night due to the wild elephant menace. “The animals stray into forest fringe villages and destroy crops. Authorities should prevent this,” she urged.

MLA Chikkamadu visited the hamlet and distributed a compensation of `1 lakh to Sugunamma. The remaining `4 lakh of the compensation will be given after receiving the post mortem report, he said.
