Now, A Tour to Study Women, Child Safety

The Committee on Women and Child Welfare will visit Odisha, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Andaman and Nicobar islands

BENGALURU: The Committee on Women and Child Welfare will visit Tamil Nadu, Odisha, West Bengal and Andaman and Nicobar islands after the upcoming Belagavi winter session to study the measures taken in those states to empower and protect women and children.  

This comes close on the heels of the Legislative Estimates Committee  deliberating on a study tour to Europe.

According to official sources, the committee, chaired by Congress MLA Shakunthala Shetty, will go on a 10-day study tour to these states, and interact with women’s organisations, Non Governmental Organisations and their legislative counterparts in those states.

The committee comprises 15 members of the Lower House and another five from the Upper House.

The Committee will leave for Chennai on December 28 and hold meetings with the Tamil Nadu Legislature Committee on Women and Children.

Speaking to Express, Shakunthala Shetty said, “Issues concerning atrocities against the vulnerable sections, including women, children and the downtrodden, deterrent laws in the respective states would be deliberated during the tour.”

 “We want to know whether those states are implementing better measures compared to what we have have adopted here,” Shetty further added.

Later, the committee will submit its report to  Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa.

Those who are likely to go on the tour are Sharada Mohan Shetty, Vadnal Rajanna, M T B Nagaraju, Dr Umesh Jadhav, B Shivanna,

G H Srinivas, Ramesh Jarakiholi, Dr C N Ashwathnarayana, L A Ravi Subramanya, Shashikalla

Jolle, Guru Patil, Sambhaji Patil, Sharada Poorya Naik and S Madhu Bangarappa (from the Assembly).

From the Legislative Council, Vimala Gowda, Allamaprabhu Patil, B Ramakrishna, and Jayamma are expected to be a part of the team.
