BIJAPUR: Three girls from Gubbewad village of Indi taluk died on Friday after falling in a pit dug by sand miners in the Bhima River.

The incident took place at Akkalakot taluk of Solapur district in Maharahstra. The deceased have been identified as Bhagyashri Dule (13), Mahananda Atanur (12) and Bhagyashri Sutar (12).

Though a case was registered at Akkalakot police station, the bodies were shifted to Bijapur for autopsy.

Police said six girls had gone to the river to collect water at 7 am when they slipped into a large sand pit. It was reported that people rescued the other three girls.

Sources said people staged a protest against the Maharashtra police in the morning.

Boy Found Bound in Plastic Bag

Kolar: An attempt to kidnap a four-year-old boy was reported from KGF on Friday.

The boy’s parents had dropped him at his school near Five Lights on Friday morning.

Around 10.30 am, residents found a plastic bag with something moving inside, behind the Government Boys School. They opened the bag only to find  the boy who was bound.

They informed the police who rushed to the spot and handed over the child to his parents.

Sources said during enquiry, the child reportedly said he will be able to identify the person who  kidnapped him from school. The reason for the attempted kidnap is not known.
