BIJAPUR: The district administration seized the stocks of four sugar factories on Wednesday.
Deputy Commissioner Ranadeep said that the district administration had issued notices to them about non-payment of farmers’ dues on June 24.
“They were given time to reply till July 4. But none of the sugar factories replied,” Ranadeep said and added that hence he ordered the seizure of their stock.
Jamakhandi Sugar Factory Unit 2 at Nad, Manali Sugar Factory at Malaghan, Gyanyogi Sugar Factory at Hirebevanur and Indian Sugars at Havinal are involved in the case. Ranadeep said Jamakhandi Sugar Factory officials had approached him pleading that they have paid the farmers.
“We are checking their records now. The seizure was done as per Sugar Commissioner’s earlier order. The district administration will to write to him and seek suggestions to take further steps against the erring factories,” Ranadeep said.
