MANGALORE: A youth was arrested from Maryhill for reportedly manhandling a woman corporator during the inauguration of a concrete road near Maryhill on Tuesday.

Sandeep Acharya of Maryhill allegedly assaulted Kavitha Sanil, who represents Panchanady ward.

Police sources said Acharya verbally abused and later pushed the corporator because he was angry with her reply to his request to initiate road repair works in his area.

Kavitha, in her complaint to Kavoor police, said she had told the youth that she would carry out the repairs soon, but he was in no mood to listen. “He suddenly came forward menacingly and pushed me down,” she said.

Youth Arrested for Raping Minor

The youth who kidnapped and raped a PU student in a sleeper coach bus was arrested on Monday.

The accused was identified as Nithin (21), who worked as a cleaner in a private bus.  Sources in Vittal police station said the victim came to know him while travelling on the bus.

Nithin invited the girl to Bangalore with the promise of marrying her. From the money obtained after pawning her earrings, he took her to Kateel temple and later both of them boarded a KSRTC sleeper coach to Bangalore. While travelling, Nithin allegedly raped her.  The girl’s parents lodged a complaint and Vittal police tracked Nithin’s cellphone and arrested him near Malleswaram. He has been remanded in judicial custody, police sources said.
