Gold Thieves Fled to Bangla Border: Cops

Thieves who decamped with 21.5 kg of gold from Srinidhi Gold Jewellery shop in Mandya city on June 6 have been identified as natives of West Bengal and Jharkhand.

MANDYA: Thieves who decamped with 21.5 kg of gold from Srinidhi Gold Jewellery shop in Mandya city on June 6 have been identified as natives of West Bengal and Jharkhand.

Mandya police, who went to West Bengal to catch them, learned that the gang escaped to islets in the Ganga on the Bangladesh border. Four teams were formed by the Mandya police and they managed to arrest a gang member. Based on his information, police began a massive search operation.

The whole of the gang’s village is involved in criminal activities, said a police officer.  

“It is an inter-state gang which looted 20 kg of gold in Tamil Nadu, 40 kg in Hyderabad and 21 kg from Mandya. They return to their village with the loot and sell it later,” the officer added.

SP Bhushan Gulabrao Borase said the Mandya police with the help of local police, will nab the gang soon.
