Mangalore: Yet another attempt to hoodwink officials and smuggle gold into the country was foiled by Customs officials recently. Muneer Pallipuzha, a resident of Pallikere in Kasargod, Kerala, was arrested and a thin silver-coated gold sheet weighing about 116.5 gms and three gold coins worth 24 gms worth `4,14,370 were seized from him at Mangalore International Airport on Saturday.

Pallipuzha who arrived from Sharjah by the Air India Express flight (IX 824), at Mangalore International Airport was intercepted by Custom officials under the directions of Assistant Commissioner Krishna Kumar Prasad. On scrutiny the officials found the silver-coated gold sheet cleverly concealed in the flask.

A release said investigation is on under the guidance of Customs Commissioner D Purushotham.
