KSE May be Opposition Leader

With Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council D V Sadandnada Gowda entering Lok Sabha representating Bangalore North constituency, former Deputy Chief Minister K S Eshwarappa is almost certain to get into his shoes.

BANGALORE: With Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council D V Sadandnada Gowda entering Lok Sabha representating Bangalore North constituency, former Deputy Chief Minister K S Eshwarappa is almost certain to get into his shoes.

Gowda’s term in the Council is scheduled to end on June 30 and BJP has decided to name Eshwarappa as its candidate for the position. Eshwarappa, who was defeated in Shimoga in the last year’s Assembly election, will be entering the Council for the first time.

“The party leadership will take a formal decision regarding this within the next few days and he is almost certain become the Leader of the Opposition in the Council,” a member of BJP Core Committee told Express.

Bypoll on June 20

The byelection to the four seats -- two each from the Teachers’ and Graduates’ constituencies for the Legislative Council, will be held on June 20.

The Election Commission has announced the schedule, which is as follows: The notification will be issued on May 27 and the last day for filing of nominations is June 3; Scrutiny of nomination papers will be on June 4 and the last date for withdrawal of nominations is June 6. The election will be held on June 20 and the counting will be on June 24.
