Leopard Caught in Hassan, Released into Forest

HASSAN: Forest officials freed an eight-year-old male leopard into Sri Ramadevara Reserve Forest near Hassan on Monday. The leopard was caught by residents of Shivanahalli of Belur taluk here.

The villagers captured the leopard with a net and informed forest officials. The leopard had been creating panic among the villagers by attacking three farmers on the outskirts of the village for a fortnight.

It had also mauled sheep and street dogs. On Monday, forest officials arrived with doctors and treated the injured leopard, before shifting it.

Big Cat Preys on Cow

Mandya: A leopard killed a cow at Chikkamarali village in Pandavapura taluk on Saturday evening.

Villager Kumar had left the cow in his farm in the morning. When he returned later in the day, he found it dead.

The villagers said they had sighted the leopard and alerted the Forest Department several times in the last few days. But the officials did not turn up, they said.
