State Junior Kabaddi Meet From Friday

HUBLI: The 3rd state-level Junior Kabaddi Championship will be inaugurated here on Friday.

Arjuna awardee Kabaddi players B C Ramesh and C Honnappa, members of the gold medal winning Kabaddi team at the recently concluded Asian Games Tejaswini, Mamatha Poojary, Shushmita Pawar and Jayanti will be part of the inauguration ceremony.

Overseeing the preparations at Nehru Ground where the event will be held, vice-chairman of the reception committee FH Jakkappanavar said 22 teams each in girls and boys categories from all over the state will participate in the championship which is happening for the first time in Hubli. The matches will be held in four grounds which are being readied.

All matches will be played under flood lights and entry will be free. Arrangements have been made to accommodate 5,000 spectators, he said. District Minister Dinesh Gundurao will inaugurate the championship at 3 pm on Friday and former CM Jagadish Shettar, Sports Minister Abhayachandra Jain, Rural Development and Panchayat Raj Minister H K Patil and MLAs of the district will take part.
