Lanes for Cyclists on the Cards

BANGALORE: Soon, cycle tracks would be made mandatory along the state as well as the national highways.

After visiting the KPCC office here on Monday, Public Works Minister H C Mahadevappa told reporters that the Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has issued guidelines to all the states to provide separate lanes for cyclists, besides providing paved shoulders for pedestrians.

He said: “In future, providing a space for cyclists will be made mandatory while taking up laying of new roads or widening the existing one.”

He said the Bidar-Chamarajanagar National Highway will have a separate lane for cyclists.
