Work has begun on re-laying the floor of the hall, considered one of the best in the country. The walls will be freshly painted, and adorned with paintings and portraits of national leaders.

The project will cost about Rs 17 crore, which includes over Rs 5 crore for civil works and around Rs 11 crore for electrical and audio-system works.“We will renovate the visitors’ gallery, corridors and the lounge...The toilets will be completely redone by raising them to international standards,” Speaker Kagodu Thimmappa said here on Thursday.

The entire work will be completed within three months, and the new Assembly Hall will be ready for the session in January. The contractor has been given a 3-month deadline to complete the project, he said and clarified that the contract has been awarded to the lowest bidder in accordance with a High Court order.
