MANGALURU: Mangalore University (MU) has recalled all the 1,315 certificates awarded to research scholars, gold medallists and rank holders during its convocation on Wednesday after discovering typographical errors in them.
After the convocation ceremony, many found out spelling mistakes and returned to the university the following day to surrender the certificates.
For instance, Syndicate was spelt as ‘Sinicate,’ sources told Express. However, the biggest lapse happened to be the absence of ‘A’ grading that was awarded to the university by NAAC.
“As many as 12 mistakes were found on the convocation certificate,” MU Vice-Chancellor Prof K Byrappa told Express. “It was only after the convocation that I got to see a certificate. I was taken aback by the careless mistakes and on the same evening, ordered the recall of all certificates.”
He said those in dire need of convocation certificates will get them on the spot.
Byrappa said he had signed the certificates without a second look as he was assured that these would have been scrutinised at many levels.
