KPSC Nominations: BJP's Fresh Charges on Sudarshan

BENGALURU: The BJP on Friday continued its attack on former Congress MLC V R Sudarshan, and accused him of abusing his position to get a tank bed in Kolar illegally allotted to a trust in which his wife Pushpa was a trustee.

Addressing reporters, BJP MLC B J Puttaswamy and party spokesperson Ashwathnarayana released documents which stated that the Kolar district administration allotted the tank bed land to M/s Jyothi Educational Trust, in which Sudarshan’s wife was the main trustee.

Sudarshan’s name has been recommended by the government for the post of KPSC chairman, and BJP leaders have submitted a memorandum asking Governor Vajubhai Vala to reject the recommendation.

The BJP leaders said that on January 30, 2003, the Kolar deputy commissioner allotted the land to the trust for educational purposes. He had stated that it should be used for the said purpose within two years of allotment. But till date, it has not been used for this, they alleged.

They said the Karnataka Appellate Tribunal quashed the allotment on November 20, 2009, saying that tank bed and forest land should be protected and maintained by the Kolar district administration. The trust challenged the order before the High Court, and the court is yet to admit the petition for hearing, Puttaswamy said.

KPSC Appointments: Vala to make Govt Wait   The state government may have to wait for some more time to learn what decision Governor Vajubhai Vala will take on the appointment of members and chairperson to the KPSC.

Sources said Vala is leaving for Gujarat on Saturday and will return on Tuesday. “The file is still lying on his table. He hasn’t seen it after it was returned to him by the state government a week ago,” a source in the Governor’s office said.

Former mlc Denies allegation

Sudarshan has denied the charges, and told reporters that none of his family members were involved with Jyothi Educational Trust. BJP leaders have been making false allegations against him due to lack of real information, he said and expressed his readiness to meet opposition leader Jagadish Shettar to clear all their doubts about any issues. “I am pained by the BJP leaders’ campaign to tarnish my image,” he said.
