MANDYA: A pack of stray dogs killed 23 goats in a shed at Karadahalli village in Nagamangala taluk on Thursday night. The goats belonged to Suresh, who claimed that they were worth more than `1 lakh.

On Thursday night, after tethering the goats in the shed, he went for dinner. On returning to the shed, he saw five to seven stray dogs attack the goats. When Suresh shouted for help, neighbours rushed to the spot and chased away the dogs.

Villagers informed the matter to tahsildar M Shivalinga Murthy, who visited the spot along with Veterinary Department assistant director Dr A Parameshwarappa. Murthy, and assured to provide compensation.

The villagers alleged that a garbage dumping yard near the village attracts stray dogs and the number of dogs has multiplied causing problems for the villagers.
