BENGALURU: The state government will spend more than Rs.2,000 crore on the construction of houses for those belonging to the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes in 2015-16 under the SC/ST sub-plan, Social Welfare Minister H Anjaneya said on Tuesday.

After reviewing the performance of various departments on SC/ST welfare schemes, the minister told reporters that the Finance Department has released about 75 per cent of the total allocation of `15,800 crore available under the SC/ST sub-plan. “It is mandatory for all the departments to earmark 24 per cent of their funds allocated under the plan and revenue expenditure in proportion to the SC/ST population in the state,” Anjaneya said.

He said apart from housing, funds will be pumped into areas like education, skill development and health. A special allocation will be made during 2015-16 to improve infrastructure in state-run hospitals in all the reserved Assembly constituencies, he added.
