Positions in Congress Not Based on Caste, Says Moily

SHIVAMOGGA: Former Union minister M Veerappa Moily on Wednesday said that the Congress will not give positions to individuals based on their caste. This comes following the demand from few quarters to appoint a dalit as the chief minister.

“The CM’s post is not vacant. Siddaramaiah is the CM. At this juncture, giving any kind of statement about making a dalit a chief minister is not right,” the  MP said.

He said party leaders should refrain from making such statements as it would damage both the Congress and the government.

Condemns Modi

“All assurances given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi before the 2014 General elections have been proved to be false,” Moily said.

He said the BJP-led Central government  has discontinued several schemes initiated by the previous UPA governments.

“The UPA government gave relief packages to farmers during calamities. But the present government is not giving any kind of relief. The government has cut 45 per cent of the amount reserved for the MGNREGA scheme,” he said.

Moily said the BJP government  has been welcoming multi-national companies, keeping only the welfare of the rich in mind. “This will not help the agriculture sector. When Atal Bihari Vajpayee was in power, the government never came into the fold of the RSS. But the present government is in the hands of the RSS,” he said.
