'Don't Project Me as Dalit Neta'

KALABURAGI: Congress floor leader in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday said people should not project him as a Dalit leader as he has been working for the development of all communities.

He told reporters, “I will be happy if the people recognise me as a Congress leader or worker.”

On the possibility of a Dalit becoming the chief minister, Kharge said such debates will not only insult Dalits but also embarrass the party.

“Leaders who spread such rumours should keep in mind that such debates will only weaken the party. We have already lost power at the Centre. We should therefore make an effort to grow stronger,” he said.

The leader also criticised the Union government for not responding to his requests to continue running ESI Medical Colleges which were functioning. The decision of the ESI that medical education is not its core subject is  wrong, the former Union minister said.
