Artificial Insemination of 25K Cows

TUMAKURU: Animal Husbandry Minister T B Jayachandra on Monday hoped that artificial insemination on indigenous cows will be a huge success.

The department will import semen from Germany and the cattle will give birth to only female calves, he said. The minister was addressing a gathering at the eighth round of a vaccination drive for  foot and mouth disease at K Palasandra village.

“The experiment will be done on over 25,000 (heads of) cattle,” Jayachandra said. The minister said the cattle population has come down as farmers have been selling bullocks to slaughterhouses.  He said artificial insemination to get only female calves is the remedy.
