Karnataka Basketball League announced

BENGALURU: The Karnataka State Basketball Association (KSBBA) will conduct the inaugural Karnataka Basketball League in Hassan (August 19-21), Vijayapura (Aug 26-28) and Nanjangud (Sept 9-11).

Eight teams based in and around the districts have been chosen. They will be divided into two groups of four teams each. The two group-toppers will play the final. The final leg of the League will be conducted in the city and the dates will be finalised later. The winning team in each leg will receive Rs 40,000 and the runners-up Rs 20,000, apart from individual prizes. The winners and runners-up of the Bengaluru leg will receive Rs 2 lakh and Rs 1 lakh. All players and officials will be provided free boarding and lodging.For the Bengaluru leg, the top two teams from each district leg will compete and they will be joined by this year’s State ‘C’ Division champions and runners-up.

Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday, KSBBA Honorary Secretary K Govindaraj said, “This league is for the benefit of mofussil players. We want to take the sport to mofussil areas and encourage talent.”
