Sharavathi starts power generation

SHIVAMOGGA:  All 10 units of Sharavathi hydroelectric plant near Jog Falls started power generation again from August 14.

A fire accident on February 18 had rendered the 10 units inoperational. Sharavathi Hydro Power Generation Project is one of the biggest power generation units in the state which supplies 20-22 per cent of the state’s total power. The entire cable duct, control unit and power generation units were burnt to ashes following the fire.

Sharavathi Hydro Power Generation Project can produce 1,035 mega watt power per day from all these 10 units.  “All the 10 units can be put into operation to produce power. But it requires water. This time the reservoir has just 47 per cent of water,” said an KPC officials.
