Time sought to collect DNA samples

UDUPI: Though the application submitted by the police to the Udupi court seeking permission to collect DNA samples of K Bhaskar Shetty’s mother and his brother was slated to come up for hearing on Thursday, the prosecution sought some more time for this, before the court on Thursday. Senior assistant public prosecutor Praveen Kumar R N said as the CID is yet to appoint an investigating officer (IO) to probe the case, the prosecution felt that it can seek permission from the court to go ahead with DNA profiling only after an IO is appointed.

DNA profiling is mainly to establish that the recovered residual is that of Bhaskar Shetty. Sources said a CID team has arrived in Udupi and may consult the prosecution on Friday. The application seeking permission for DNA profiling will come up for hearing on August 24 as per the court’s order.
