Cops Make Accused Dance in Station to Spill the Beans

CHIKBALLAPUR: Cops using force to make hardcore criminals spill the beans is common knowledge. However, a police sub inspector (PSI) in this Karnataka district chose to do it the other way.

Taking a cue from the Telugu movie ‘Gabbar Singh’ where lead actor Pavan Kalyan, who plays a cop, extracts information from rowdies after making them dance, PSI Sundar tried out the same tactic at the Manchenahalli police station in Chikballapur district.

Although the incident reportedly took place about six months ago, it came to light only on Tuesday and the video is doing the rounds on social media.

Sources said the incident took place in Manchenahalli during the interrogation of Chigadgere Praveen and his gang, who were allegedly involved in various crimes, including murders.

During the interrogation, Gnana Prathap, an accused, remained tight-lipped and did not cooperate with the investigators.

When a co-accused revealed to the policemen that Prathap would blurt out everything whenever he was in a merry mood as he would while visiting discotheques in Bengaluru, a police officer arranged for music to be played to which Gnana Prathap began dancing.

This was one of our tactics to make him spill the beans, Sundar justified. After dancing, Gnana Prathap revealed the entire truth which helped solve various cases, he claimed.

Sources said on the information provided by Gnana Prathap, the police arrested two more persons - Polad and Rohith.

When contacted, Superintendent of Police Chithra said she had instructed DySP Purushothaman to conduct an inquiry. Sources revealed that Purushothaman visited Manchenahalli and Sundar was summoned by the SP in the evening.

Central Range Inspector General of Police Arun Chakravarthy, who is on an official tour to Tumakuru, said he would look into the matter.

Sundar told ‘Express’ that the Gabbar Singh-style interrogation was done “on the wish of the accused, Gnana Prathap”. He said Chigadgere Praveen’s gang had been arrested for their involvement in various crimes.
