Supporters of Rape Accused Threaten Victim's Family

BELAGAVI:  Supporters of an accused undergoing imprisonment on charges of raping a four-year-old girl, are allegedly threatening her parents to withdraw the rape charge.

Finding no support from the local police, the parents approached Deputy Commissioner N Jayaram, urging him to take action against those threatening them.

Speaking to Express, Ajinkya (name changed), recalled the incident in which accused Ranganath Ghanti raped his minor daughter at Mudakavi village of Ramdurg taluk.

The accused was arrested on February 15. Ajinkya said the supporters of the accused are threatening them to withdraw the case.

They have allegedly created such hurdles for the family that they were forced to leave the village and are currently residing in a small hut at Ramdurg, he alleged.

Ajinkya said that he and his wife has approached the PSI several times and even handed over the mobile number from which he was receiving threatening calls. But the PSI allegedly did not take any action.

“Instead, he has asked me to leave the village and go to some ‘safe’ place elsewhere,” he said. Jayaram assured the parents of looking into the issue.
