BELAGAVI: Yellappa Handibag, brother of Chikkamagaluru DySP Kallappa Handibag who killed himself in July this year, also allegedly committed suicide on Thursday.

Yellappa, 28, who was a police constable at Kulagod police station in Gokak taluk, allegedly ended his life by hanging at his house in Kulagod.

Yellappa, who was on duty at the three-day Kittur Utsav, returned home and hanged himself from the ceiling when no family member was present. The reason for the suicide is not known but sources said he was depressed after his brother’s death and would often talk about it.

Kallappa had committed suicide at his in-laws’ house at Raibag taluk on July 4 after he was suspended over his alleged involvement in a kidnap case.

Gokak DySP Veerabhadraiah and Superintendent of Police Ravikantegowda rushed to Yellappa’s house on being intimated. Kulgod police have registered a case and are investigating.
