More rainfall expected across Karnataka this week

BENGALURU: Encouraging signs of monsoon, as witnessed in the past week in South Interior Karnataka, is expected to continue over the next week. Good rains are forecast for both South-interior and North-interior Karnataka till August 22.

According to Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Cell, interior Karnataka will witness overcast conditions on August 14 and 15, the region will receive good rainfall from August 16. Rainfall is forecast  in coastal and Malnad regions.

S S M Gavaskar, scientist at KSNDMC told Express the showers forecast next week will reduce rainfall deficit in many parts of the state. “The rains will increase inflow to reservoirs, especially in South-interior Karnataka,” he said. While the long-term monsoon forecast had projected normal showers for August, save South-interior Karnataka, in other parts it has been deficient. However, indications are that during the course of the next 10 days, rainfall will bridge the deficit.
