BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court Tuesday issued a notice to the Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) regarding two petitions filed by former chief minister BS Yeddyurappa seeking to quash two FIRs registered against him on charges of illegal de-notification.
Hearing the petitions, Justice Arvind Kumar issued a notice to the ACB and complainant Dr Aiyappa, former vice chancellor of a private university, before adjourning the hearing to Wednesday.
The ACB registered two FIRs against Yeddyurappa for allegedly denotifying land to the extent of 257 acres illegally. The FIRs were registered on August 10 and 19 respectively.
Accusing Yeddyurappa of misusing his powers to help land owners, the complainant has accused him of causing a loss to the Bangalore Development Authority.
According to Dr Aiyappa, Yeddyurappa allegedly passed 20 different orders to denotify 250 acres of land acquired for Dr Shivarama Karanth Layout in Bengaluru north taluk. This happened while he was the chief minister between 2009 to 2012.
The ACB also arrested four officials of the urban development department and BDA as accused along with Yeddyurappa. The ACB, subsequently, after registering the FIRs, issued Yeddyurappa a notice asking him to appear before it on Saturday.
The former chief minister sought 10 days time but his request was not considered by the ACB which asked him to appear on Wednesday, sources said.
