BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court on Tuesday dismissed a batch of petitions seeking directions to denotify a stretch of a national highway passing through Bengaluru and other towns and to renew their excise licenses.

Justice Vineet Kothari dismissed the petitions of bar and restaurant owners here, saying that this court cannot exercise its jurisdiction in view of the Supreme Court order.

The Centre refused to denotify national highways passing through cities and towns in Karnataka, citing the apex court order as well as technical reasons.

The Karnataka government, following the order to close bars within 500 mts of national highways, had appealed to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to denotify some stretches in Karnataka.

Explaining technical reasons for its refusal, the Centre in its communication dated August 14, 2017, addressed to the state informed that it is not feasible to favourably consider the proposal to denotify the isolated stretch of 609.65 km aggregate length.
