CM taunts BSY over eating at dalit homes

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah threw a challenge at BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa asking him to marry off one of his family members to a dalit if he really believed in their social empowerment.

BENGALURU: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday threw a challenge at BJP state president B S Yeddyurappa on Friday asking him to marry off one of his family members to a dalit if he really believed in their social empowerment.

Taking a dig at Yeddyurappa’s acts of partaking in lunch at the homes of dalits, Siddaramaiah said, “Merely eating at the homes of dalits is not enough. He should marry off someone in his family circle to a dalit.”

He was taking part in a function organised by the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board to inaugurate three Sewage Treatment Plants at Raja Canal, Nagasandra and Chikkabanavara.
Insisting that only the Congress government had the welfare of the poor at heart, Siddaramaih pointed out to the recent move to supply free water of up to 10,000 litres a month per family living in slums.
A release said that the STP at Chikkabanavara has a capacity to treat five million litres of sewage per day and was built at a cost of `46.49 crore. The Raja Canal STP can treat 40 MLD of sewage and cost `132 crore while the StP at Nagasandra cost `66.76 crore and can treat 20 MLD of sewage.
