As per COMEDK’s notification, the seats available in the extended second round will be published on July 29 and the candidates can enter their options on July 30.

BENGALURU: For the first time, the Consortium of Medical, Engineering and Dental Colleges of Karnataka (COMEDK) has decided to conduct an extended second round of counselling for admissions to undergraduate engineering seats.

The decision has been taken following the Admission Overseeing Committee headed by Justice Anand Byrareddy approaching the high court seeking a direction to COMEDK to fill the vacant seats.

As per COMEDK’s notification, the seats available in the extended second round will be published on July 29 and the candidates can enter their options on July 30. The seat allotment will be done late evening on July 30 and the last date to report to colleges is July 31.

Candidates who have participated in the second round and have not been allotted a seat or have not accepted any seat allotted by any other agency are eligible to participate in this round, the notification states.

COMEDK informed the High Court on Friday that it would hold another round of counselling to fill vacant seats in engineering courses by July 30 for the current academic year.  After a memo was filed by COMEDK addressed to the Admission Overseeing Committee, a division bench of Justices H G Ramesh and K S Mudagal disposed of the petition.

According to COMEDK communication, of the 14,578 eligible students during the first round of seat allotment, seats were allotted to 10,689 candidates. Of these, only 900 candidates had accepted, paid the fees and collected their allotment.

As many as 7,658 candidates had opted to hold on to their seats and had indicated that they preferred to upgrade in the second round and these candidates had also paid the fee.

For the second round of counselling, 10,802 candidates were eligible and 7,665 candidates were allotted seats as per their rearranged options. Of these 3,884 candidates have accepted the allotment and 1,339 have rejected and withdrawn from counselling. While no option has been indicated by 2,234 candidates, no seats were allotted to 3,345 candidates.
