BENGALURU: Following a complaint against a private firm by the regional Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) office, the UIDAI head office in Delhi has said there was “no data breach or hacking” of biometric data.

According to sources in the Legal Affairs, Media and Volunteer/Sabbatical Division in New Delhi, the alleged illegal activity was discovered during a routine scan of the system. “We discovered that there was something suspicious and decided to file a complaint. Filing a complaint does not mean that every section mentioned in the complaint is applicable against the accused,” the source said.
A case was filed against Qarth Technologies Pvt Ltd by Ashok Lenin, Deputy Director, UIDAI Bengaluru, under the IT Act, Aadhaar Act and sections of IPC.

Sources in Bengaluru UIDAI said the app against which a case was filed was “Aadhaar E-KYC Verification”, and was offered by ‘MyGov’, with Abhinav Shrivastava being the developer. Though the case has been filed under various sections of the IT Act, it is yet to be transferred to cyber crime police.
