Mysuru launches bicycle sharing system

The country’s first public bicycle sharing system (PBS) was launched in Mysuru today. It’s called Trin Trin.

MYSURU: The country’s first public bicycle sharing system (PBS) was launched in Mysuru today. It’s called Trin Trin.

When fully operational, there will be 52 bicycle docking stations at tourist destinations, universities and offices in Mysuru. There will be 450 bicycles (430 normal and 20 geared) parked at these stations, which users can borrow.

Some 6.5 lakh people have registered for the service.

The docking stations are automated. Users can use a smart card to rent a bicycle from aany docking station and return it at any other after use. Upon return, a nominal user fee is deducted from the smart card.

The PBS system is operation in 600 cities around the world, providing sustainable commuting option for citizens.

Karnakata chief minister Siddaramaiah launched the service by pedaling a bicycle. He went around Hardinge Circle.

 
The service will be launched in Bengaluru later this year.
