BENGALURU: giving temporary relief to Janata Dal (S) leader H D Kumaraswamy, the Karnataka High Court on Thursday directed the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the Janthakal mining case not to arrest the former chief minister until the next hearing.

While adjourning a hearing on the anticipatory bail plea filed by Kumaraswamy Tuesday to allow SIT to file objections, Justice Rathnakala passed an interim order directing the agency not to arrest Kumaraswamy.

This was after Kumaraswamy's counsel expressed apprehension of the accused's arrest by SIT.

The SIT is probing allegations that Kumaraswamy allegedly pressurised IAS officer Gangaram Baderiya, the then commissioner of mines and geology, to issue orders allowing Vinod Goel of Janathakal Mining to lift iron ore dumped in the Chitradurga mines without following proper procedures.
