Kannada group disrupts screening of dubbed Tamil film Satyadev, IPS

The protestors staged a dharna inside the theater and tore up posters of the film erected on the premises.

HUBBALLI: Members of a pro-Kannada organisation barged into the Roopam theater here where Satyadev IPS, a Tamil movie dubbed into Kannada was being screened and disrupted the show on Friday.

The protestors staged a dharna inside the theater and tore up posters of the film erected on the premises. The morning show of Ajith starrer Satyadev IPS, was being screened in Roopam when members of various organizations gathered at the spot and demanded to stop the screening.

Police tried to pacify them but they would not budge. The owner of the theatre said Satyadev IPS was being screened as he did not have any other Kannada movie to show.

"This was the only movie available for screening. I respect your sentiment," he told the protestors and stopped the screening.

Shivanand Muttannavar, a municipal corporation member and Kannada activist, said, "We will not allow the screening of any movies dubbed into Kannada. We oppose dubbing as it is harmful for the Kannada language. If the owner of the theater screens it again, we will not spare the theater," he said.
