Monetary pressure drives farmer to suicide in Karnataka

BELAGAVI: A middle-aged farmer whose house was recently gutted in a fire allegedly committed suicide by consuming pesticide at Hanchinal village in Savadatti taluk on Monday night.

Irrappa Ramchandra Kambar (55) had three acres of land and had borrowed Rs two lakh loan for agriculture. Kambar was reportedly suffering from depression after he suffered a crop loss due to drought, and losing his house to a fire in the village, over a week ago.

He was also being allegedly pressurised by banks and local financial institutions at Savadatti to return the loan amount. A case has been registered.
